I started serious cycling in the innocent summer of 2018 with a goal of losing weight and improving fitness. Saddled up on my fancy new Roscoe, I found myself falling in love with riding. With the help and support of my amazing wife and friends, I discovered trail riding is an amazing experience and sitting in and pushing watts on the open road is mentally rewarding (once you get past the ‘why is my heart rate this high’ of course).
After I dropped a decent amount of weight and fundamentally changed my lifestyle and physique (was an easy task lol), I got a Checkpoint (gravel bike) as a reward to myself. I started focusing on improving speed and power, completing a couple events including the #TenThousand (gravel grinder) and Chicago Triathlon (both in 2019).
2020 hit my “drive to improve” hard. After a regression of fitness going into 2021, I discovered the lovely group rides at the local Trek store (and other rides in the area) as well as the Trek-Verge team which has reinvigorated my motivation to get stronger and better on the bike.
